LASEK eye laser surgery

In the modern LASEK principle, the laser treatment is performed superficially directly on the cornea. While older methods may carry the risk that a cornea that is not thick enough becomes unstable, this risk is practically nonexistent with the use of LASEK. The great advantage lies in the gentle treatment of the thin cornea.

The LASEK procedure is applied for

myopia (corrections up to -6 diopters)
hyperopia (corrections up to +4 diopters)
astigmatism and corneal curvature (corrections up to 3 cylindric diopters).

1. Using a special cutting tool (trephine), a flap is cut on the outer epithelial layer, 2. To soften the top tissue layer, a liquid is applied to your eye for 20 seconds. This makes the epithelium harder and allows it to be pushed aside, 3. Then the epithelium (the top cell layer of the cornea) is detached and removed.

1. 4. The corneal tissue is treated with the laser so that the correct curvature is formed, 5. The opened top cell layer of the cornea (flap) is closed again, 6. After the treatment is completed, a therapeutic contact lens is placed in the eye.
